Yup, its summertime in the Washington area again. Remember that your rabbits wear fur, all year long. With temperatures already hitting the 90s, it is important to make sure your rabbits are indoors, and cool. The ideal temperature range for a bunny is between 60F and 70F. When temperatures get this high, rabbits exposed to the heat, especially combined with our area's high humidity, could suffer, even die from a heat stroke. So make sure your little furry friends are safe indoors and in the coolest and least humid area of the house. Damp basements are one of the worst areas to keep your rabbits, unless there is a dehumidifier and fan to keep out the dampness and improve the air flow. If airconditioning is not available, make use of plastic milk jugs filled with frozen water, or blue freezer packs. Cooling the bunny's ears with a cold, wet towel also helps. If you see signs of heat stress, including panting, drooling, or a nasal
discharge, rush your rabbit to the vet before it is too late. |
